Sounds like you guys know how to have FUN! We have a small club here in Pickens Co. and are always looking for interesting topics to attract new members. Maybe we could incorporate some of your kits/projects into our agenda. Also, quest speakers are needed. We meet on the second Thrusday of each month in the evening.

I did a Google search on my callsign, GM4ZNX, and found your wattmeter pdf! Instead of going to 7 turns on the transformer "secondaries", just leave 12 turns, and put the primaries up to 2 turns. Same effect as 6 turn secondaries, but no damage to 160m performance.. good for milliwatting. The 2-transformer directional hybrid has been known for several generations, and several RF versions have cropped up. I can't understand why anyone would build a directional power sensor any other way. I'm just glad to have given it a bit more exposure. PS, you mentioned the 1996 ARRL handbook... Have a quick look down the first column of chapter 14 ;-) Nice site! David

Good stuff Mike, We need more like it ! Here is an update for the ÿ2kballoon We now have four QRP H.F. beacons for the y2k balloon. These will transmit a continuous c.w. message, and ident. The beacons are on 3.58 mhz, 7.045 mhz +/-, 28.075 mhz, and 50.22 mhz. All have 1/2 wave vertical dipoles. If conditions are favorable we expect reports world wide. We are waiting for a favorable (easterly) jet stream, and of course fair to good local wx. See http://www.caribooweb.com/y2kballoon for launch, logging, and balloon information. Please pass on to all that may be interested, Tnx de Ric, VE7 CUP, for the "Balloon gang"

Update for the y2kballoon from Quesnel B.C. Wx still not looking good, but the extra time has enabled us to add another beacon. As well as the 3.579 mhz. c.w. beacon identifier, we have added a 6 mtr "flea power" 20 mw beacon, with the same identifier message as the 80 mtr beacon, again with a 1/2 wave vert. dipole. As well, we are adding an optically split screen on the ATV cam. The bottom 1/8 of the screen will show the 12 oclock horizon, this will be articulated to the best position sometime after launch, and stabilization of payload. If we can find a crystal, we will also add a 10 meter beacon. "73" from Quesnel, de VE7 CUP,,,, www.caribooweb.com/y2kballoon

Great to see QRP picking up as much as it has. I am from the New England QRP club and I have been QRP active for just about 10 years. My station is whatever is on the market: NE-30-40, NE 40-40, SGC-2020 (save your money), NorCal 40A, St. Louis Tuner, Ohio Paddles, and many more. It is strange that I have a linear on the operating table but receive the highest satisfaction from QRP. If you hear me on, call me and we'll QSO. New Hampshire is waiting to hear from you.
